Since the human race was able to string two thoughts together there has more than likely been hate
Along with it's great friend, jealousy, these two emotions are responsible for some truly irrational behavior. Especially in the name of faith.
I have often wondered what is in store for all the judgemental folks when they finally pop up at the pearly gates. Events this week in Indiana with the passage of the religious freedoms restoration bill there makes me wonder even more. Are we at the beginning of a new witch hunt, is this just business as usual? What would Jesus do?
Indiana's Governor Pence has been crying about the negative press their new law has been getting. It seems he's very upset that some folks are calling for a boycott of his beloved state. He's even claiming that there was never any discriminatory intent in the this religious protections law. But in the same breath he also admits that protecting LGBT rights is not on his agenda.
Governor Pence claims to be distressed by the "avalanche of intolerance" by folks from outside of Indiana who know nothing about this legislation. What about the avalanche of intolerance you've just codified? It never fails to surprise me the lengths to which so called "good christians" will go to pass judgement on others. If you want to eliminate religious intolerance I guess you should start with the intolerant religious.
The way our countries federal system of rights was written is that my rights end, where yours begin. Simple, so simple it is a little confusing to most folks. You see, no matter what Indiana codifies, no citizen has the right to discriminate against another. Eventually after lengthy and expensive court battles this is how the U.S. Supreme Court is going to rule.
So why are bills like this still happening? Easy, it's politics as usual. The government should be ashamed of itself. It's not of course. It's seen as the necessary cost of doing political business.
You know what I hate? Stereotypes, prejudice and politicians!
